Please Join Us For Our 5th Annual Build-A-Bike Event
Saturday April 17, 2010 at Hanna Park 11am – 6pm
Enjoy our pictures from last year!
In 2009, we collected about 300 donated new, used, and damaged bikes to create 225 fully operational re-built bikes. The children picked out a bike and brought it to trained bike mechanics from the community who taught the youth how to fix and maintain the bikes. In addition, we partnered with Martin, Harding, and Mazzotti, LLP Attorneys at Law who graciously donated 300 brand new bike helmets and we had trained volunteer professionals who fitted each child with a helmet. The rebuilt bikes and helmets were given away for free. In 2009 we had well over 500 people attend. Additionally, 73 adults and youth volunteered on the day of the event. Other sponsors for 2009 included Gilroy, Kernan and Gilroy, Inc., the Utica Police Department, and Anaconda Sports. We could not run this event without the community support. Thank you.
Our Goals for 2010 are to:
- Give away 250 refurbished bicycles
- Give away a new helmet with each bike
- Teach youth basic bike repair skills
- Offer a bike safety course
- Encourage youth to be healthier through bike riding!
How you can help:
- Donate or become a sponsor. We are in need of $15,000 to cover all costs of the event and ensure that it is free to area youth. Any donation amount will help. Remember your donation is tax deductible.
